Exhibitions:
Our exhibition, “The Ecclesiastical Art of the Dunamellék”, presents the life and main artistic trends of the Reformed Church. On display are some of the most prominent items of furnishings found in Reformed churches: the Lord’s Table, the pulpit, pew fronts, painted wooden ceilings, alms boxes, and the objects used to administer the two sacraments of the Reformed faith—baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Our collection of ecclesiastical art is a real treat for those interested in the applied arts (goldsmithing, tinwork, ceramics, textile arts, and painted woodwork), history, church history, and the Reformed liturgy.
Fuxreiter Mineral Collection: Nature’s Third Kingdom
András Fuxreiter’s heritage mineral collection welcomes visitors interested in paleontological finds, rocks, and minerals with both permanent and temporary displays. In addition to minerals from Earth’s five continents, the collection features fossils such as dinosaur footprints, mammoth bones, and insects preserved in amber. Among the collection’s highlights are the “fluorescent minerals” which can be admired in a darkened display area.
The exhibition aims to showcase the beauty of inanimate nature while providing educational materials for teaching geography, chemistry, biology, environmental science, and physics in primary and secondary schools.
The Secrets of the Locked Room: The Life and Art of János Muraközy
The Old College, housing the Ráday Museum, is one of our city’s most significant historic monuments. The famous writer Mór Jókai studied law in this building from October 1842 to July 1844. He later immortalized his classmate János Muraközy in several of his novels. Muraközy was a legendary figure—a student, gymnastics and fencing instructor, skilled horseman, high-society dancer, guerrilla captain in the 1848 War of Independence, and a heroic captain in the Hungarian Army.
The exhibition highlights Muraközy as an artist through his prints and paintings, alongside personal relics and furniture from his home.
