The institution, unparalleled in Hungary and home to a unique collection, began its operation in September 1976.
The personal collection and gift from filmmaker Domokos Moldovan established the basis for the Kecskemét Collection of Hungarian Naive Artists.
Alongside this, the museum managed events in the subsequent years, integrated naive art pieces from both the Institute of Folk Culture and the Hungarian National Gallery, and identified fresh artistic talents. The items on display are intimately linked to the daily routines and festive occasions of individuals involved in farming, livestock management, and manual crafts. Within the museum’s exhibitions, a distinct synergy was achieved between Hungarian naive art and the renovated historical house that once served as a local residence.
